Pillar Burning Guidelines
When burning a pillar for the first
time, it is important to give it a "memory burn".
You should burn the candle 1 hour for each inch of its diameter.
Example: a candle that is 3 inches in diameter should be burned
for three hours to establish its "memory". This will
allow your pillar to establish a full melt pool (increasing
the scent throw) and leave a shell about 1/4 inch thick, so
no wax can drip over the sides.
What will happen if I don't give
my candle a proper "memory Burn"?
If your candle is burned for a shorter
period of time, it will "Core Burn" down the center
and a good scent throw cannot be achieved.
As the candle burns, it will begin
to develop a "lip" or "shell". To keep the
candle burning properly, you need to "hug" it, or
cup the shell inward towards the flame. Gently press the sides
of the candle toward the center, I do the front & back at
the same time, then left & right side at the same time.
This allows the candle to burn evenly and consume almost completely.
Do this after you extinguish the candle, while the wax is still
warm and pliable. Do not attempt while the candle is still burning.
The molten wax is hot.
Before lighting your pillar be sure
to trim the wick to 1/4 inch. This will help prevent the candle
from smoking excessively. Before re-lighting again trim the
wick to 1/4".
Check your candle periodically to
see if the wick is centered and is the proper burning height.
If not, extinguish with snuffer, then trim and center the wick
as necessary.
Be sure to keep all candles out
of drafts, away from any flamable objects, and out of reach
of children.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Following these guidelines will
provide you with hours of beautiful light and fragrance from
our pillar candles.
